
Bomber A longtime pilot and a lifelong friend of ours was worried. Which was unusual.
This is a woman who flies her ancient T6 Warbird in the Reno Air Races. That is when she isn’t flying through mountain passes on her T-5 Vespa.
Her concern? A classic flight jacket given to her years ago by an Air Force veteran. “I love this jacket,” she said, “but no one can see me at night when I ride. And if I wreck, well . . .”
So charged with keeping the lines, the function and most importantly, the soul of her flight jacket, we went to work. We put Cordura® underneath the outer shell in high abrasion areas, armored it throughout, added some discreet reflective material and of course finished it with the trademark big brass zipper.
Months later we encouraged her to land and try on her new Bomber jacket. She took a short pause in the mirror and deemed it “perfect,” before hurrying out the door and back to the airport. She had only six hours to make Oshkosh.
