White Sand Mayhem IV
Our rally did not turn out as originally planned and was nothing like our rallies in the past. That is not to say that it was not a success and all did not enjoy the rally. Several rally goers fought to have the rally after our original rally had to be canceled due to the closing of the beach roads damaged by Hurricane Isaac in late August. We decided it was no reason not to continue on with a smaller rally 100 miles east in Panama City Beach. Scooter enthusiasts came from Mississippi and all over Florida to support us despite the change in plans.
The newly named rally, White Sand Mayhem: The Washout, was held at St. Andrews State Park in the very tip of Panama City Beach. Our Friday night ride took us to Haufbrau Beer Garden for some good food, great drinks, and entertaining music. The restaurant was set up like a traditional beer garden, and lucky for us they were just kicking off their Oktoberfest celebration.
Saturday brought beautiful weather and amazing rides like our 30-mile beach ride. The ride first stopped at Mike’s Café for a delicious breakfast. Mike is a lifetime resident of Panama City Beach and also a Vespa rider so we wanted to make sure his café was one of our stops. Mikes Café has been in business since 1986 and we were treated to an amazing breakfast.
After finishing up at Mike’s we continued on “the beach ride” down picturesque HWY 30A to the charming community of Seaside, FL. This is the town used in the movie, The Truman Show. After a couple hours of sightseeing, shopping, and a great lunch, we headed back and enjoyed more amazing scenery on our ride home to the campsites.
The evening ended with a short ride, dinner at The Wicked Wheel, and a late night spent sitting by the campfire enjoying the company of our scooter friends. We reminisced about how perfect the weekend was. All of the rides were amazing taking riders along the sugar-white sand beaches of Northwest Florida. The weather was perfect, other than threatening rain on Sunday, and we had pretty clear skies with highs in the low 80s.
When our Sunday ride was canceled due to threatening rain, we said our goodbyes and farewells till next year. We wished would could have put on a big rally like we have in the past but the laid back atmosphere and great friends made this a rally to remember.
